"This is a guitar for electric players who don’t want to be a stereotype." ~ Andy Powers
Released in June 2023, the Powers Electric A-Type has quickly become a sensation within the electric guitar community. Designed by Andy Powers of Taylor Guitars, the A-Type is a fresh, modern take on electric guitar design, heavily influenced by Southern California’s rich culture. From his love of Porsche cars, surfing, and skateboarding, Andy infused each element of the A-Type with these influences, creating an instrument that is truly unique.
The A-Type features colors inspired by Porsche paint schemes, while the Camtail tremolo resembles something you'd find on a hotrod. The custom knobs, switch tip, and tremolo bar tip are tributes to surf culture, and the innovative compound radius of the fingerboard is inspired by surfboard design. For those familiar with Southern California, these references are unmistakable, blending the region’s iconic culture with guitar design in an entirely new way.
But beyond its cool aesthetic, the A-Type excels in performance. Having played a ton of A-Types at this point, we can confirm its consistent excellence. The neck carve is instantly comfortable, offering a slinky feel that makes playing effortless. Sonically, the A-Type shines in both clean and overdriven tones. Its in-house designed pickups deliver fat, warm, and articulate sounds that truly impress when pushed with gain. The compression and sustain are remarkable, making the guitar feel like a natural extension of the player.
Much like a high-performance sports car, the A-Type is agile, sleek, and powerful, combining tradition with cutting-edge innovation. The result is an instrument that lives up to the hype and offers an unparalleled playing experience. Whether you’re looking for clean tones or use overdrive, this guitar delivers on every front.

Brand Story
"My design was heavily influenced by the area where I grew up: San Diego’s North County, close to the beach, where I was immersed in a vibrant cultural stew of surfing, skateboarding, auto craft, music, art and architecture — a rich mix of creative expression.
As a player and a builder, I wanted a guitar with great musical utility, one that feels amazing every time you pick it up - inspiring you to explore fresh ideas while allowing you to sound more like you. This is a guitar for electric players who don’t want to be a stereotype." ~ Andy Powers
