This is a particularly sweet-sounding postwar Martin, with a very full voice alongside excellent warmth and balance.
This Martin 00-18, serial number 100326, was stamped May 21, 1947, and cleared final inspection on September 24th that same year. This guitar never made it very far from the old North St. factory in Nazareth: it was originally owned by a Pennsylvanian who made his family home a short distance away. And said owner was remembered by his descendants as an enthusiastic musician ~ one who never aspired to be a performer, but who loved this 00-18 and played it for his children each night before bedtime.
This is a particularly sweet-sounding postwar Martin, with a very full voice alongside excellent warmth and balance. The soft V neck carve and short scale make it a dream to play; and it moves an incredible amount of air for a small guitar when it's put in drop-D tuning. For anyone interested in a late 1940's small-bodied Martin -- this one receives our highest marks for sound and playability.
We received this guitar in 100% unaltered original condition; and while the bridge had lifted off the body, it was remarkably well-preserved. We performed a neck reset and bridge reglue; and we were able to reuse the original Martin saddle when resetting the neck angle.
The guitar remains all-original and shows beautiful patina. There are no cracks, and barely any notable blemishes on its surfaces. The original owner only used a chipboard case with the guitar, and it's included with the sale.
In short, this is a lovely old 00-18 in the sort of condition that would please a serious collector accompanied by the sort of tone that would delight a discerning musician.
