Product information

A faithful early '70s Jazz Bass - block inlays, bound neck, and the punchy single-coil bark that drove a decade of records.

The early '70s Jazz Bass occupies a specific corner of bass history. Larry Graham was playing one through a Fender Bassman with the tone full up. Jaco was about to pick one up and rewrite what the instrument could do. Studio players in Muscle Shoals, Nashville, and L.A. were tracking the records that defined the decade on basses just like this one - block inlays, bound necks, that unmistakable midrange bark.

Fender's Vintera III Early '70s Jazz Bass is a faithful read on that instrument. Alder body, maple neck with the early '70s "C" carve, bound fingerboard with block inlays, 7.25" radius, vintage-tall frets.

The pair of vintage-style single-coils is where this bass earns its keep. Solo the bridge pickup and you get the punchy, articulate growl that drove a thousand funk and R&B records. Roll the neck pickup back in and the bass gets warm and woody - the sound that lives under just about every great rock recording from that era.

If you've been chasing that '70s Jazz Bass sound - the one that sits in a mix without a fight and gives you something to dig into when the song calls for it - this is the most direct route Fender currently offers.
