Collings I-35 Spruce Top Iced Tea Sunburst (USED, 2021)
Semi-Hollow · Humbuckers Pickups · Used
Clean or overdriven, there's something about the tone of this guitar that sounds older, call it vintage if you like. Makes sense given that spruce is a softer wood than maple, hence less reflective and warmer. To be sure, there's plenty of top-end sparkle in this guitar, it just has a bit more low-midrange content and a softer attack which we find really appealing.
These spruce topped I-35s have become a favorite of everyone in the shop for the aforementioned reasons. Love 335s? This subtle twist on a classic should definitely be on your list.
We sold this guitar new, and given how infrequently we're seeing these variations these days, we're thrilled to have it back in the shop! It has even opened up a bit more acoustically as well. The prior owner also made a nice upgrade via a pair of Ron Ellis Signature humbuckers, which only adds to the harmonic richness and clarity of an already stunning sounding Collings. It shows signs of light contact wear on the back of the body, with some light pick scratches and small nicks on the top. There's a little bit of string wear on the peghead, but nothing egregious. There's also some light finish wear on the edge of the treble F hole where electronics were likely fished out to handle the pickup swap.
Ships in its original hardshell case.
