The Les Paul Standard as we know it (Mahogany, Maple, twin HBs) made its reintroduction into the "Norlin Era" of Gibson in 1974. While it doesn't quite capture the original vibe of 50s LPs, examples like this remain as outstanding alternatives at literal fractions of the cost of their late 50s brethren.

This '74 LP Standard has one of the nicest two-piece Maple tops we've seen from this period - a combination of rippling curl with loads of birdseye speckled throughout. It's got a great Tobacco Sunburst finish that also carries into the back and sides, and even onto the 3-piece Mahogany neck!

The original pair of Patent # humbuckers sound absolutely fabulous - bright and punchy with great clarity and muscle. The guitar is SUPER resonant too, with a natural liveliness that makes it very responsive. The C carve neck starts out slim and tapers into more of a '59 depth, and with a recent pro refret, it's playing as smooth and easy as you'll find.

There are a few small changes to point out that keep it from being 100% original - replaced tuners (70s Gibson-branded Schallers), replaced knobs, and evidence that the original covers were once removed for the exposed coil look. The lower bout strap button was also slightly relocated just south of the original hole. Otherwise, it's break-free with its original finish. It also includes its original Gibson hardshell case, which happens to be in great shape.

Celebrating its 50th birthday this year, this is shining star in the world of 70s Gibson LPs.
