This 1955 Gibson ES-175N shows off just how the rare Natural finished Gibsons age over time, with an incredible honeyed light amber hue that is nearly impossible to replicate in a modern instrument.

This is an excellent mid 50s example of the formidable laminated Maple archtop electric in its single-pickup configuration. It retains much of its originality with just a few small and tasteful changes like a replacement Ebony bridge, replacement knobs, a very well made repro pickguard, and a pro refret. The original nickel-plated tailpiece has remained along with the P90 pickup, wiring harness, and Kluson 'no line' tuners.

While the Natural finish steals the show in many regards, the neck deserves some attention here. It's got some beautiful flame and figure in the Mahogany that pops against that body finish. Feel is fantastic as well, with a medium/chunky C carve that is a total joy to play. The refret kicks that experience up a notch as well, with a medium gauge wire that is certainly bigger than what would've original been on the guitar, but is of a size that gives reverence to the factory spec in a way (not too big, not too small).

Plugged in, the medium output P90 provides that woody round low end with some balanced midrange and the classic top end chirp with beautiful fundamental projection. There's a certain sweetness to the tone that develops over time in a guitar of this vintage - all the while, dynamics and responsiveness are not lacking here.

Jazz and blues players know just how capable even these single pickup ES-175s can be in the right hands, and this one certainly fits that bill.
