We can definitely get on board with the black-on-black look of this 1977 Fender Stratocaster.

While this strat certainly qualifies as "player grade", it's been finessed into one excellent playing electric as evidenced by its previous owner, session and touring ace Rich Hinman.

We'll make this nice and simple...what's original and what's not original?

Original

  • Neck and neck finish
  • Tuners
  • Plastics (pickguard, tremolo cavity back plate, knobs)
  • Body and body finish
  • Neck pickup
  • Bridge
  • Tone pots ('7636' indicating 36th week of 1976)
  • 3-way switch

Non Original

  • D/G string tree
  • Middle and Bridge pickups - DiMarzio 4-conductor
  • Additional toggle switch
  • Volume pot - DiMarzio
  • Saddles (Fender parts)
  • Nut

Now we're clearly not talking about a collector piece or a premier vintage guitar here - just a great 45 year old Strat that happens to be one of the good ones, and has had some changes made to maximize tone. Perhaps to coolest addition is the toggle switch just below the pickup selector switch, which allows for both neck/middle and neck/bridge positions. Tele fans can rejoice knowing they'll get that great middle position setting that's not usually available on a vintage or modern strat.

The DiMarzio pickups add some output and balance that the originals sometimes lack, making it a great choice for both clean and overdriven tones.

The neck starts out slim but transitions to a nice medium/large thickness, all the while remaining very comfortable and broken-in.

Nothing to think too hard about here. This is just a great 70s Strat at a very friendly price point.

Priced with aftermarket tweed hardshell case.

  • Slim C neck profile: .79" @ 1st fret / .94" @ 12th fret
  • Weight: 7lb 14oz
