We love what a top-loader bridge brings to a Telecaster both tonally and feel-wise.

Looking for your first (or next) Telecaster? Whether you're an acoustic player exploring electrics (imagine a Tele as your D-18 in the electric world), a Strat enthusiast who values playability, versatility, and comfort, or a dedicated Tele aficionado eager to expand your collection, this '59 Custom Shop Telecaster could be the perfect addition.

When we first tested this ash-bodied Tele, we were immediately impressed by its light weight (7lbs) and neck profile. The large C shape neck (.875-.950") - with Fender's unfinished relic on the back - combined with 6105 narrow tall frets and a 9 1/2" radius offers a superbly comfortable feel, making it especially appealing to players looking for a malleable, slinky playing Tele. It's exceptionally easy to play, with a smooth taper and slightly relaxed string tension thanks to the top-loader bridge (which is also cable of being strung traditionally, ie, through the body).

Plugging into a Carr Super Bee revealed the magic of the Texas Special pickups, which provide hotter output while preserving the classic Tele twang. This higher output means you can play with a lighter touch without sacrificing rich, full-bodied tones. The ability to dial back your pick attack while still achieving a powerful sound makes it an incredibly versatile and inspiring guitar.

Required listening: Jim Campilongo (a longtime top-loader Tele player)
