The core of the SL model's design is simple - take a Stratocaster and a Les Paul and combine the best bits into something new. Simple in theory, hard in practice (read: easy to get wrong). Fortunately for you and me, fellow guitar enthusiasts, Gene draws on his time at both the Gibson Custom Shop and the Fender Custom Shop to absolutely nail this idea.

The mahogany neck on this guitar is a highlight - it is incredibly easy to play and the profile feels like a cross between a great ES-335 and a 1960 Les Paul. Gene calls it a standard C and it measures .83" to .96" with 6105 frets.

Wired with a set of Lollar low-wind Imperial humbuckers and a two volume / two tone (push/pull coil taps) / 3-way setup, you can cover a wide range of tones, clean to fuzzed out. The Lollars are a great match to the mahogany body / spruce top and short scale length - the articulate and clear top end with the sweet low midrange and slightly rounded attack of the spruce are really addictive.

With its Strat-meets-Les Paul body, this SL Deluxe is just more comfortable to play than most Gibsons you're likely to encounter. Better balance, a tummy cut, effortless upper fret access...all while sounding and looking very much like an old Gibson. Such a cool experience to play!

Condition: There is evidence of light play wear which includes a few marks on the top north of the humbuckers (think SRV) and a few indentations on the back of the neck near the first through third frets. We didn't notice them given where they're located on the back of the neck due to where your thumb typically lives when playing in that area of the neck. Otherwise, the setup feels great and the guitar sounds amazing.
