The first of a pair of A models Lawrence just sent us, and sure enough, both are potent examples of why so many top-flight players own Smart instruments. Clean workmanship with an earthy aesthetic that conveys the look and feel of a handmade instrument. Lawrence always achieves great sonic results from Engelmann spruce, as evidenced by the open, dulcet voice on this mandolin. Smart paired that top with a flamed, Red maple back and sides, buttoning things up with a very nice varnish finish.
