Montreal-based luthier Nic Delisle has been crafting some of the most unique electric guitars on the market for years. His love for famed catalogue guitars of the 50s and 60s shines through in his work, taking those wonderful mid-century concepts into the modern era with taste, refinement, and a keen eye for artful design that tows the line between familiar and fresh.

The Tonoplata is an original bass design that integrates some of the elements of late 50s Supro and Danelectro guitars and basses with the aluminum neck concepts adapted by Travis Bean and Kramer in the 1970s (wood necks are an option here, but we're focusing on the aluminum neck variant for the purposes of this very bass).

With its slightly offset body design, dramatic German carve, and Retro Pink Relic finish, it can't help but stand out. The aluminum neck plays off of the custom machined control plate and matching aluminum knobs to pull that touch of industrial design in as well. It's an eye-catching look that is anything but derivative.

The pickup pairing combined with the aluminum neck yields some truly fantastic tones. Even isolating the Fralin P pickup, you're rewarded with a punchier, brighter overall response that takes the Precision sound to whole new heights. Being able to blend the MOJO dual lipstick pickup in and out of the equation adds depth and warmth without sacrificing definition and attack.

This Tonoplata features the 30" short scale neck option, providing a more forgiving feel to the playability - a great alternative to the likes of a Fender Mustang Bass or Guild Starfire Bass. It never feels loose or untethered, though. There's still a snappiness to the response we often associate with longer scale basses that exists in this build. It's really equipped to perform in many different contexts with genre-defying ability.
