Although it's more common to see the R8s and R9s of the world get put through the vintage makeover process, it's nice to see what you can really squeeze out of a standard production Gibson in the right hands.

This 2007 Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s is anything but "standard" at this point, having been given a beautiful makeover by one of the premier vintage restoration and conversion shops out there - Lay's Guitar Shop in Akron, Ohio. While the bones of the original guitar remain intact, such as the slim taper 60s Mahogany neck, weight relieved Mahogany body, and Maple top, Lay's has gone through and given this guitar some serious vintage upgrades in every way possible.

First off, this LP has a new "60 Burst" nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete with Royalite binding throughout, a vintage-correct silk screen headstock logo, and 50s style fingerboard inlays. The original Nashville Tun-o-Matic bridge was removed, post holes were filled, and new holes were drilled for ABR-1 posts, complete with a new lightweight ABR-1 bridge and stop bar tailpiece. A fantastic sounding set of Throbak SLE101+ humbuckers were installed along with a brand new historic spec wiring harness and original 50s 'bumblebee' capacitors. Grover Rotomatic tuners replaced the original modern Kluson reissues, and a new nut was professionally installed.

The result? You're now looking at a guitar that can easily rival Gibson's Custom Shop top-tier LPs (Collector's Choice, Made 2 Measure, True Historic, Murphy Lab etc etc). It reminds us of the Custom Shop Cloud 9 Les Pauls of the early 2000s - lightweight, resonant, packed with tone. The big benefit here is the price point - you're getting a serious LP for the fraction of price of a similar spec'ed Custom Shop variant.

Condition: Excellent. The makeover gives it a true vintage vibe, leaning more into a NOS aesthetic rather than VOS, although the aged hardware presents it as slightly worn in. Playability is great with low action and the frets are in great shape. It's incredibly lightweight (under 7lbs!) and ready to go!
