Distinguished looks that mirror Gibson's famous Electric Spanish guitar, this EB-2D offers warm, thumping low end power with great short-scale playability.

Introduced in 1958, the Gibson EB-2 or 'Electric Bass' followed the formula of the guitar-equivalent ES-335 by way of a semi-hollow electric model with a laminated Maple body, and Mahogany neck with Rosewood fingerboard. It was originally offered as a single-pickup guitar and evolved into a twin-pickup variant you see before you.

The Gibson EB-2D debuted in 1966 with a second pickup in the bridge position in the style of a mini-humbucker. Added volume and tone controls along with the Baritone switch offered up players a more versatile bass that could deliver fat, thumpy low end as well as a brighter, punchier attack.

This EB-2D recently found its way into our shop from the sister of its late owner who had purchased in nearly 30 years prior. With the exception of the mute assembly, it has remained in a factory original state its entire life. The Sunburst finish is still rich and vibrant with minimal fading, and the binding has aged nicely to a darker cream/yellow. It features original plastics throughout, including the "reflector" knobs that were abandoned in favor of "witch hat" knobs later in 1967, keeping it more of a true early/mid 60s specs in that regard.

Well-maintained and set up with great playability and a fresh set of tapewound strings, this EB-2D is a great representation of Gibson's storied semi-hollow electric bass model. Its short scale and light weight make it a breeze to play, and it occupies a sonic space all its own.

Includes original Gibson plush-lined chipboard case.
