Description

A rare byrd indeed...

Check out this stunning 2015 Gibson Custom Byrdland Crimson Edition that just came in on consignment!

For those unfamiliar with this model, the Byrdland was conceived in 1955 via Nashville session greats Hank Garland and Billy Byrd out of a desire for a thinner bodied and "faster" playing variant of the venerable L-4 CES archtop. A shorter 23.5" scale and narrow nut width breathed new life in to the next wave of electric archtops. Fast forward 60 years, and you've got a near mint example of a mastercraft reissue from Gibson's top luthiers.

The Crimson Edition builds feature a high-grade selection of tone woods combined with a build quality from the top builders at Gibson's Nashville custom shop facility. In what could be considered one of the rarer finishes we've seen out there, this natural beauty features a carved spruce top, carved flame maple back and sides, 3-piece maple neck, and ebony fretboard with pearl block inlays. Multi-ply binding dresses up this Byrdland from head to toe, including the pickguard. Gold hardware is exceptionally clean throughout, including the pickup covers, tuners, ABR1, and tailpiece.

Playability is smooth and spot-on via a fresh set of Thomastik flatwounds, with the more standard 1 11/16" nut width and a great C neck carve. The original '57 Classic humbuckers are a perfect sonic complement to this style of archtop, delivering beautiful and rich clean tones with some of that traditional PAF sparkle and response.

Condition: Near mint. This guitar is exceptionally clean with very low hours of play time on it. Virtually no fretwear. This would pass as new in the eyes of many!

Price includes the original hardshell case and Crimson COA.
