German (or European) spruce has long been a sought-after tonewood, favored by classical guitar builders for its unique stiffness to weight ratio. While it has a similar dynamic range as Adirondack spruce, German spruce has an added cedar-like warmth and balance, making it an especially pleasing tonal choice for the smaller-bodied guitars favored by fingerstylists.
