This Collings OM1 Maple just shows how adept our friends in Austin are at using alternative tone woods to achieve outstanding results. Maple is more commonly found on larger guitars  where it delivers that big ol' chunky rhythm sound. In an OM, top graduation and voicing are much more critical as is the sourcing of the maple to insure it is not just eye candy but has the the right balance of stiffness and mass. This is where Collings consistently delivers. Their maple OM's have all the texture and fullness of more traditional tone woods, while providing a degree of definition and woodiness not found in a mahogany or rosewood OM. And let's be honest, it may be the most stunning OM in the shop right now. Honey-toned Birdseye, a smoky torrefied sitka top! Come on!!
