"Refined elegance in a playful and modern style" is one of the ways we describe the Deimel Firestar model. Drawing inspiration from Golden Era offset guitar designs, the Firestar marries that slender silhouette with sleek contouring that gives it its own vibe. The forearm carve in particular - how the bevel catches the angle of the bass side cutaway - is a testament to the keen and artistic eye that Frank Deimel has exhibited for years with his instruments.

One of two Firestars we received as our inaugural batch, No. 251 brings some bold and lively contrast both aesthetically AND sonically.

The handwound Deimel pickups - a JM-V in the neck and a JM-90 in the bridge - cover an impressive range of tones in their own rite. In the traditional sense, you've got sweet and clear neck pickup tones and more robust P90-like response in the bridge pickup. It's when you activate the onboard Pickup LesLee circuit and switch on the internally mounted body piezo disc that things start to get much more interesting. This is the calling card of a Deimel...

With the flip of a couple of slider switches, you can combine some of the most unique and inspiring tonal variations we've ever encountered in an electric guitar. The Pickup LesLee circuit on its own is worth the price of admission - lush, 3-dimensional Hammond B3 like warble unlike any effects pedal out there, all controllable via the thumbwheels on the upper left section of the guard. These Speed and Intensity controls give the player the ability to dial in tempo and mix, taking things from subtle to extreme. The LesLee is hard to turn off...it's addictive.

Opposite of the LesLee circuit you'll find the pickup selector toggle and a pair of slider switches - one that activates the body piezo and a second that toggles the LesLee between Mono and Stereo operation. For those swimming in experimental waters, you'll find these options wildly inspiring. Kicking the piezo in with an overdrive or fuzz and a louder amp yields some incredible harmonic feedback and resonant activity. Introducing a second amp into the equation and engaging Stereo operation with the LesLee is something to behold. You'll now have the neck pickup going to one amp and the bridge pickup to another! Set up your neck pickup amp for clear and clean with some reverb, and your bridge pickup amp for a more aggressive overdriven tone, and prepare to be immersed in some other-worldly sonic possibilities. Each Leslee-outfitted guitar ships with a proper stereo Y-cable too!

If you've handled the likes of a Huber, Ronin, or Koll, the playability will feel right at home. These guitars are incredibly well dialed-in, with expert fretwork and neck shaping along with a truly remarkable level of fit and finish. The beautiful natural-finished one piece Swamp Ash body has some deep and dramatic grain - kind of seismographic in a way. It sets the table for a bright a vivid Turquoise anodized aluminum guard that pops when combined with the white plastics. Top shelf hardware (Mastery, Gotoh) and high quality electronics (CTS, Bourns) also help maintain that high level of playing experience and function. No stone is left unturned with these guitars.

Even with an electric inventory as diverse and expansive as ours, Deimels stand in rarified air as perhaps the most forward-thinking and artisanal. If you can imagine it, Deimel can build it. This guitar is one of many ways they continue to prove that statement.
