TME offers remote lessons for players of all levels in many styles of acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, and mandolin.
The Lesson Center has been inspiring players of all levels since 1972! Our veteran staff went into teaching because they are passionate about music, learning, and inspiring the next generation of musicians ~ both young and adult.
Jazz; Rock Guitar
Mike joined The Music Emporium staff in 1992, specializing in jazz, blues and rock.
Versatile as a player and teacher, Mike has students ages 6 to 86, teaching all styles and levels, from absolute beginners to advanced. Mike plays with the Ken Clark Organ Trio, Myanna, Michelle Willson and has toured the U.S. and Europe, recorded several records, and even some television spots.
Mike graduated Berklee class of 1990, student of Jon Damian, Garrison Fewell and Charlie Banacas.
All levels welcome.
A long-time teacher with experience in programs throughout the greater Boston area, Danny is a knowledgeable and capable instructor. Danny has performed for years in and around the Boston rock scene, most prominently in the band Zug Zug.
Our resident rock guitar expert, with a wide knowledge of everything from classic rock styles to the most modern and challenging shredders of today, Danny has built a reputation for keeping his students excited as they progress, and always receives glowing reviews.
All ages and skill levels welcome.
Classical & Jazz Guitar
A seasoned musician, Audie Bridges has played and taught for many years. He currently teaches jazz, classical and blues guitar, specializing in theory, improvisation and arranging for solo guitar.
Audie has a Bachelor's degree in Composition from Berklee College of Music and a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from The New England Conservatory. In addition, he has studied jazz with Charlie Banacos, Mick Goodrick, Pat Martino and Lenny Breau.
Audie teaches adults, all levels.
Fingerstyle, Jazz & Classical Guitar
A professional guitarist from the age of 16, Raymond has performed in styles from classical to jazz, blues and folk to rock, traveling extensively from California to New England.
Raymond has a Bachelor’s degree in Composition and Theory from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, and a Master's degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music. As a guitarist he specializes in composition, open and obscure tunings, jazz arrangements and the gamut of classical repertoire.
All levels are welcome.
Bluegrass & Melodic Banjo
The 2002 and 2003 New England 5-string banjo champion, and a six-time bluegrass banjo contest winner at the Lowell Banjo and Fiddle Championships, Rich is a tour de force on the banjo.
A tasteful player and composer, Rich adapts a variety of musical genre to the five-string, preserving the melodic heart of the music while retaining an unmistakable "banjoistic" flavor.
When he isn't teaching or working professionally outside music, Rich performs with traditional bluegrass bands here in Boston.
Old Time Banjo & Fingerstyle Guitar
A potent multi-instrumentalist, Larry has been with us longer than any other instructor.
A musician of great taste and ability, he is a patient and inspiring teacher. He has recorded several records, and toured extensively as an accompanist and in group settings.
Larry's specialty as a teacher here is in old-time banjo, an instrument on which he truly excels.
All levels are welcome.
Fingerstyle, Slide & Blues Guitar, Clawhammer Banjo, Mandolin
Martin Grosswendt is a master country blues and bottleneck guitarist and clawhammer banjo player.
Committed to passing traditional music on for over four decades, Martin has taught numberless private students and at blues and roots music camps across the U.S. and in the United Kingdom. He is a patient and attentive instructor who loves to teach. Martin specializes in helping beginning to advanced students develop and refine fundamental instrumental skills.
Martin is also known as an accomplished old-time rhythm guitarist, blues mandolin player and Cajun fiddler, all of which he teaches at the Emporium.
Martin welcomes students of all levels.
Fingerstyle, Blues & Bottleneck Guitar
Bob is most known for his intricate acoustic blues and slide work, but over his long career he has also played and sung in many blues, jug, zydeco and folk bands.
He has recorded one solo CD, and done a great deal of session work during his years in Cambridge MA and in the Seacoast area.
Bob has studied with Rev. Gary Davis, and has performed with many notable musicians.
