Ruokangas Unicorn Classic (2016)

Out of Stock

Our first instrument from Finnish builder Juha Ruokangas just in on consignment!

Juha has built a reputation for making exquisitely crafted guitars and this gently used 2016 Unicorn provides ample evidence as to why. Beautiful details like the open-pore/satin finished Spanish Cedar back and neck coupled with a high gloss, richly hued 3D Birch top create a refined and elegant feel - you can really sense the quality of the build immediately. Every element of the build radiates attention to detail and perfection (this 2016 Unicorn sports some of the best fretwork we've encountered).

The neck carve is a perfect '59 Gibson inspired carve - chunky and round but not too wide or cumbersome. It's a very comfortable shape that should find favor with a wide range of players save for those who have to have a slim, flat carve. The setup feels great with a slinky, medium action and notes have a solid, snappy feel under your fingers - great for both lead and chord work.

This guitar sounded gorgeous plugged into our trusty Milkman Creamer. Squarely in the Les Paul camp overall, the Unicorn does have more upper midrange content than any LP we've played. Think ES-335 "air" crossed with the punch and output of an LP, mixed with a dash of Tele snap and twang. Yep, a very cool combination!

Condition: Save from a handful of shallow surface scratches on the back and one on the side of the guitar, this guitar is in excellent overall condition. Frets show no wear (they're stainless), and the electronics work as they should with no issues.

As you can tell, we're really knocked out by this Ruokangas. Love Les Pauls but wish they were a bit more elegant and refined- yet- still have soul and vibe? This is your guitar. Priced with original Hiscox hardshell case, case candy/certificate, wrenches, and strap locks.

On consignment, no trades please.
