Ronin guitars have made quite a name for themselves with their inventive guitar designs and goldfoil pickups. Players like David Torn, Keith Urban, John Shanks, and dozens of others rely on the work of this CA-based company and we're thrilled to have our first one in the shop!
While Ronin's lineup trends toward more forward-thinking designs (see: Mirari, Songbird, Morningstar, etc...), the Betty model is about as traditional as you can get - but - with some notable twists that yield a unique, incredibly musical guitar. One of the biggest deviations from the standard alder or ash Tele formula is Ronin's use of very old reclaimed redwood for their guitar bodies. Paired with a top-loading Glendale bridge, the Betty is incredibly loud and resonant when played unplugged. This guitar just feels alive and inspiring in your hands, no two ways about it.
Speaking of feel, the neck has a wonderful soft V carve and feels quite a bit like a great Fender. Let's call it a slightly less chunky version of a '56 Strat. There's a really slinky feel to this guitar overall. Straight ahead rockers all the way to chicken pickers will be able to navigate the Betty with ease - it's a great feeling and easy playing guitar all around.
Plugged in is where things really start to get interesting. While we absolutely love a great Tele bridge pickup (and this one to be sure is), we jumped right to the most obvious starting place - the goldfoil neck pickup. Man of man this is a killer sounding goldfoil. Airy, articulate....just gorgeous played clean and perfectly ragged when driven hard. It takes what can be a weak area on a Tele and turns it into an undeniable strength. Coupled with a beautifully raw, twangy bridge pickup, the Betty can cover quite a bit of ground sonically.
Condition: Very good overall. The body shows the most wear which is confined to surface scratches and a few small dings scattered around the body (the biggest/worst being on the back). The neck and frets are smooth and feel new. All electronics work as they should.
We've had our hands on a few other Ronins (outside the shop) and are again thrilled to have one in the shop for sale. Killer guitars that match high build quality, attention to detail, and beautiful tones with ease. Love it! Priced with non-original hardshell case (molded plastic).
On consignment, no trades please.
