Marchione OMC Maple/European Spruce

Description

Texas-based master luthier Stephen Marchione builds archtops, classical guitars, electric and acoustic guitars, even violins. He utilizes his knowledge of both classical and jazz construction in each guitar he makes and the results are nothing short of stunning. His clients include Paul Simon, Leni Stern, Mark Knopfler, Vernon Reid, and John Abercrombie to name a few.

While we've had one of Stephen's solid-body electric and semi-hollow electric pass through the shop, this 14 fret maple OMC (Orchestra Model Cutaway) is our first acoustic guitar from him. As evidenced by just the overall aesthetic and vibe of this OMC, this is a guitar that will appeal to players who seek out modern instruments.

Flawless build quality, forward-leaning designs, effortless playability, and otherworldly power and sustain are hallmarks of this guitar. The amount of volume and sustain we're getting from this guitar are astounding. Rarely do instruments translate even the lightest right hand technique into this much volume and sustain. It's as if Stephen has built some kind of multiplier into this guitar - your lightest strumming goes in a 1, lets say, and comes out an 11. It's wild, but more importantly, incredibly rewarding and inspiring to play.

Unfounded multiplier theories aside, the real secret to Stephen's guitars are his build methods. The OMC is hand-built in a traditional classical guitar-style mold and features custom X bracing, a rosewood bridge plate, and a Spanish heel neck joint with carbon graphite reinforcements. A European Spruce top, European Maple back/sides/neck, African Ebony bridge/faceplate/fingerboard are all assembled using hot hide glue.

All of this attention to detail in the build process yields an incredibly rewarding playing experience. The neck has a slightly chunky, slightly wide feel, though the nut measures a standard 1 3/4". The fretwork is fantastic which furthers the deluxe overall feel - simply put, this is an incredibly easy to play guitar that again, translates anything you play on it into a loud, rich  voice. This is easily one of the best sounding maple guitars we've had in the shop in quite some time. Balanced, sweet top end, punchy...we're loving it.

If you're new to Stephen's guitars, we encourage you to check out this extraordinarily talented builder - you won't be disappointed! Priced with hardshell case.
