Description

"The guitars are finished to look like real instruments made by a real person, not poured out of a mold on the other side of the globe. All custom guitars are designed in collaboration with the players who use them - professionals, beginners, and in-between." -Creston Lea

Another stunning offset-style guitar from Burlington, VT's talented Creston Lea! We've been fortunate to have had about a dozen of his instruments pass through the shop since becoming dealers, and at this stage, know what to expect - very consistent builds that exude attention to detail, and perhaps most importantly, a true player's eye for what players want and what makes a guitar great.

One of the qualities that makes Creston's guitars consistently stand out is his ability to put a clever spin (read: well thought-out and useful) on a classic model. Case in point? This gorgeous Ice Blue Metal Flake offset that replaces the typical Jazzmaster/Jaguar single coil pickup set normally found in this type of guitar with a set of tone-filled Lollar Gold Foils.

"Gold Foils...I keep hearing about these pickups and seeing them everywhere. What's the story?"

In this guitar, they deliver really inspiring, low-output Tele-meets-P90 tones. They're surprisingly warm and allow you to really dig in with your right hand without overpowering them. Paired with the 25 1/2" scale length and Mastery bridge/trem setup, there's a beautiful acoustic snap and top-end coupled with a warm, fat midrange. Our personal take is that this guitar sounds its best either clean or, surprisingly enough, with a lot of gain / fuzz. J Mascis would likely love this guitar re: fuzzed out tones. Don't get us wrong, it'll do a lot of different things very well, that's just the range we had the most fun in.

Like all of Creston's guitars, the neck carve is on the chunkier C-shape side of the street, and always very comfortable w/fantastic fretwork. The setup is dialed in perfectly as well, making this offset very easy and rewarding to play.

Creston has built his reputation on being a straight-shooting, player-minded, very gifted builder - this beauty is one more testament to that well-earned reputation! Priced with original Creston/Levys gig bag.
