Gibson L5 (1937)

Lots of great archtop guitars are described as having a sound "like an old L5." And then there's the real thing! This beautiful 1937 L5 comes to us from the collection of a very well-respected jazz guitarist in Boston, who's moving it along only because he prefers his 16" instruments to the wider 17" lower bout present on this one. The guitar is original except for replacement tuners; and it does show signs of finish overspray reminiscent of the "freshen up" coats many old guitars received when sent in for factory maintenance. Its overall condition and playability are excellent, and it has the penetrating bark acoustic jazz players would want for powering through a mix. More midrange and volume than you'll ever need, which makes it very well suited to players of varying right-hand attacks. The talented Eduardo Mercuri plays it over at the Video tab! Priced with its original -- and very cool -- hard case.
