Anyone familiar with the Seattle music scene - or top-tier luthiers - will likely know the name Mike Lull. Mike has either built or repaired instruments for Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Death Cab for Cutie, Willie Weeks, and Mike Merrit (to name a few). Mike also worked as a bass player in Seattle which helped him develop a sense for tone and playability, something that surely reveals itself in this killer 2012 Lake Placid Blue FX model.
Mike builds each guitar by hand in addition to doing the set-up and PLEK work himself and it shows - this is an awesome feeling and playing Firebird-style guitar (more comfortable than many vintage ones we've played, truth be told).
One thing that Firebird fans will instantly notice is the choice of bolt-neck construction vs. the standard set-neck construction this model typically utilizes. It honestly made no difference to us one way or the other - we had a blast cranking this beauty through a Carr Lincoln (based on a Vox AC-10) and couldn't get over how lightweight and balanced it is. It's a very resonant, snappy, and alive feeling guitar.
The Lollar Mini-Humbuckers sound incredible and easily capture the essence of a great Firebird. Biting, jangly, and powerful, we were able to cover anything from old-school blues to Foo Fighters approved stadium rock with ease. Seriously, this guitar is a blast to play and sounds amazing!
Condition: Like new.
