This gorgeous 2007 Master Artist is the first guitar we've had from Louisiana-based master luthier Gerard Melancon and we are extremely impressed!
While Gerard certainly has made a name for himself in boutique guitar circles, he may not be a familiar name to everyone. The build quality, playability, and tones are on par with any guitar we have (or have had) in the shop, which is to say, exceptional.
Gerard built this limited run of Master Artist guitars - this one is #3 of 20 - to represent the pinnacle of his work. All materials are master-grade: Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, White Limba body and neck, stainless steel frets, and Melancon PAF humbuckers. It actually reminds us a bit of the Thorn Deluxe guitars we've had though the shop, but with a slightly more organic feel.
It's a joy to play - nice medium / chunky neck carve, great balance, and a nice slinky string feel. We found ourselves losing track of time while putting it through its paces - always a good sign!
Tones? Let's just get this out of the way - we love Korina. The midrange that this wood imparts gets you into Gibson territory quickly, but it always retains a gorgeous top-end clarity, articulation, and snap. It's as if you've taken a really great LP and blended about 20% Tele into the mix. Not sure if that's purely a tone thing, or if it's the entire experience of playing this guitar - feel, body shape, tone - giving us the "sometimes Gibson, sometimes Fender" vibe of this guitar. Whatever it is, we love it.
This is an exceptionally nice guitar that would be right at home in any high-end guitar lover's home! Priced with hardshell case.
On consignment, no trades please.
