"I didn't want to make Telecasters or Stratocasters or Les Paul copies, I wanted to do my own thing. Because these are original shapes, I had the flexibility to do anything I wanted." -Saul Koll
Of all the buzz-creating guitars Koll displayed at the 2018 NAMM show, the new Super Cub model one of the most talked about models in the booth.
Truth be told, we loved this guitar immediately for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is because it's the type of guitar that reminded us of why we picked up an electric guitar in the first place - it looks killer and is super fun to play. We immediately plugged it into a cranked Carr Merc V and were grinning ear to ear. Great guitars simply make you want to play and before you know it, 45 mins have passed. This is one of those guitars.
Ultra-lightweight, resonant, and lively, the Super Cub embodies what makes models like vintage Melody Makers so great. Take that vibe and put it into a superbly crafted guitar and you'll get where this guitar is coming from.
We have a guess as to what you're thinking at this point - what's the story with those pickups?! They are Curtis Novak Guyatone goldfoils and they sound incredible. The tones we pulled from this guitar were muscular, full of chime, and excelled at both clean and overdriven tones. Fender, Vox, Marshall-style amps, it sounded amazing through every one.
Though this Super Cub sold before the NAMM show was even over, we'll be getting more asap and all will be unique. Keep an eye on our site for more details as we get them. Trust us, you want one.
**Heads-up: Premier Guitar Magazine will be featuring this guitar in an upcoming issue and John Bohlinger has done a fantastic video of this very guitar (be sure to check out the Video tab in this listing).
