Ian Anderson Standard Special (Used)

$3,200.00

With over 20 years of experience in the craft, Ian started his professional career in the early '90s with noted builder and restoration expert Scott Lentz. He then went on to work for Taylor Guitars where he worked in just about every department, specializing in the art of CNC machining. His experience with Scott Lentz, the historic instruments that came through his shop, and his work at Taylor guitars inevitably led to the Standard Special model guitar.

We are thrilled to be able to offer this rare, gently used Ian Anderson Standard Special (total Bonamassa vibes too, no?). Ian's guitars feel like the best 1950's Gibsons, only housed in the more balanced, and comfortable, Telecaster shape. Don't let the shape fool you though - this is a Les Paul Special style guitar through and through.

Fans of large neck profiles will absolutely love Ian's neck carve (it's the quintessential '59 LP shape). The tones? Huge. Ian winds his own pickups and the result is quite possibly the most open, clear, and fat Les Paul-esq tones you're going to encounter this side of a vintage LP (even then, vintage LP's aren't always great). Seated playing is a joy as the Tele shape offers something all LP's lack - balance. The playing feel is super slinky, not stiff in the slightest...Tons of sustain on tap...Can you tell we love this one?

How does this stack up to, say, a Historic Gibson? No comparison. Don't get us wrong, the Gibson Custom Shop turns out some fantastic guitars...but...this is in another league. Flawless build quality, exceptional materials, tones, feel and playability. The attention to detail is just markedly higher (which makes perfect sense - one man shop vs production).

Condition: Excellent save for a few minor indentations scattered around the body (near the input jack, etc...). There's one chip in the finish by the nut, bass side (no impact on playing or stability, purely cosmetic). On first glance, the guitar looks mint. It's only after giving it a thorough once-over will you notice any of the above.

A great opportunity to grab a guitar from a highly lauded builder without having to endure a really long wait period. Priced with original hardshell case.
