Inspired by Dennis Fano's dream of an alternative reality where the great luthiers of the past work together, this
To go ahead and get it out of the way, this is a Premier Builders Guild Fano, not an earlier Fano made by the man himself. Having played both many times, we feel the PBG guitars are every bit as good as the ones made by the man himself. Gene Baker, one of the famed Fender Custom Shop luthiers, is behind the PBG builds - translation: a world-renowned builder and his team built these guitars so you know they're going to be awesome!
Give it a quick glance and you'd be forgiven for thinking this was some sort of SG. A closer look will reveal that while the body shape is very SG-like, the ML6 very much has its own thing going on. What is similar is the light weight and killer punchy tones. Some improvements include the way the controls are laid out, the custom wound pickups, fatter neck carve, and better balance. Think modern interpretation of the classic SG and you'll start to get a feel for where this design is coming from.
The neck feels amazing with its worn-to-the-wood relic treatment and fatter '59 LP carve. Acoustically this guitar is very lively and loud with great sustain - you just know it's going to sound great plugged in. Into an amp, in our case a cranked Jackson Atlantic 4.0 for its great Marshall-meets-Vox tones, man o man! All the punch and bite you could ever want out of a great SG are here (make sure you have some room for all the windmills you're going to be doing!).
We simply love Fano guitars and would grab one over a production SG any day of the week. Give this one a shot, you won't be disappointed! Priced with hardshell case.
