"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more." - Bill Collings
This fantastic custom 2017 aged lacquer I-35 just in and, frankly, we're in love.
An I-35 is an incredible instrument to begin with (and arguably one of the best semi-hollow guitars on the market) but perhaps you'd prefer a fatter neck carve or larger frets? Standard wind Lollar Imperial humbuckers more your thing vs low wind Imperials? Read on...
When a/b'ing this guitar with a stock I-35, the fatter '59 Les Paul-esq custom neck carve of this guitar immediately makes itself known. It's incredibly comfortable and coupled with the jumbo Jescar frets makes for an excellent, effortless playing experience.
We're so familiar with low-wind Lollars that it was great to play a set of standard-wind Imperials again. The extra bit of output only increases the effortless playing experience and also opens up the dynamic range, especially with regards to your right hand technique. You simply don't have to dig in quite as much which is something we really love - the guitar does a bit more of the work for you. That said, if you are a heavier right hand player, digging in pushes a slightly cranked amp into a killer edge-of-breakup tone. Blues players will definitely dig that aspect of this guitar, but jazz and rock folks will have plenty to enjoy as well.
Condition: Like new save for two spots in the finish which look like a little bit of the clear coat chipped off - you can see this in the photos (side of the upper bout / on the back).
A killer guitar that's a no-brainer for players who love 335s but want a fatter neck carve and bigger frets - i.e., a super easy playing, awesome sounding semi-hollow classic. Priced with original hardshell case.
