Apitius F5 Rosine Mandolin 2015

Sold

"My approach is to 'see further by standing on the shoulders of giants'. The Lloyd Loar signed instruments of the 1920s set a very high bar indeed. In my mandolins, I endeavor to re-create the hand made, outward aesthetics of the vintage F-5s while using my patent pending* technique for graduating the top plates to even further refine the sound. My motivation comes from a desire to produce the best mandolins that I possibly can. I am not interested in mediocrity or second best." ~Oliver Apitius

After a 10 year hiatus, Oliver Apitius is back to making classic Loar-inspired mandolins. This excellent condition 2015 F5 Rosine Model is from Apitius' freshly retooled Ontario workshop. The Rosine is modeled after, and appointed in much the same way as Bill Monroe's favorite Loar F5. And as one would expect, the sound is very Monroe-like: woody, throaty with a very satisfying growl in the low end. The trebles are edge-free and solid with none of the stridency of lesser F5's. This mandolin stands out in a very crowded field of excellent mandos in our shop right now. Probably the most Gibson-like of the bunch.
