"I didn't want to make Telecasters or Stratocasters or Les Paul copies, I wanted to do my own thing. Because these are original shapes, I had the flexibility to do anything I wanted." -Saul Koll
Saul Koll created quite the buzz at this year's NAMM show in California. We snagged as many as we could, and first up from this batch of NAMM guitars is this incredibly beautiful Cadilac Green Super Glide Almighty!
Gretsch fans will immediately pick up on the old-school Gretsch vibe - Cadilac Green, Bigsby, gold hardware, thumbnail fingerboard inlays, classic / classy looks...As with many of Saul's guitars, he manages to masterfully blend both elegant and refined looks with a more primitive, crank-the-closest-Marshall rock n roll soul. This is just a stunningly gorgeous guitar, no two ways about it.
Enough about the looks...How does it play, feel, sound? We absolutely love the neck carve and slinky overall feel. It's a slightly chunky "medium C"carve, and it just feels awesome and very, very comfortable. The action is nice and low and the Bigsby works perfectly. It's a loud, resonant, and alive instrument when played acoustically...
Plugged in, the Arcane humbuckers this SGA is equipped with really shine. Authoritative, bold, mid-range drenched tones work really well into both clean and overdriven amps. You can really take this guitar into whatever direction you desire - Chet to Angus, it'll cover a ton of ground.
You really owe it to yourself to check out one of Saul's guitars. We have no doubt that you'll quickly see why he is so revered in the boutique guitar world. A true artist and master craftsman! Priced with a custom Koll Deluxe G&G case.
