Gibson “Banner” LG2 (1943)

1943 "Banner" Gibson LG2 just into the shop! This guitar has been played extensively; and it's a great sounding example of a wartime LG2. Since it bears some obvious wear, let's start with condition. There's noticeable lacquer checking and player on the top -- the kind you'd expect on a guitar this old. One bass side crack, one back crack, which are both stable and immobile. A previously installed strap button has been removed from the back of the neck heel; and we'll leave it to the next owner to decide whether or not to put a new one in its place. The original bridge has likely been sanded down, but it's serving its structural purpose and there's no need to replace it at this time. Newer compensated saddle. As with most of these truss-rod-deficient Banner Gibsons, this guitar has a chunky, bona fide baseball bat neck (this one is three pieces). Mahogany back & sides, and Spruce top. Great volume, clarity and snap, with excellent balance across the fretboard. All you could hope for in a wartime LG2. Priced with vintage, but non-original, hard case.
