"I didn't want to make Telecasters or Stratocasters or Les Paul copies, I wanted to do my own thing. Because these are original shapes, I had the flexibility to do anything I wanted." -Saul Koll
Missed out on that one Gold/Copper Leaf Koll we had last year - TME fans, you know the one (click here). Still kicking yourself? Kick no more...
Folks, this is Saul Koll at his finest: creative, trail blazing, unrestricted, brilliant. Rumor has it that Walter Becker played this very guitar at Koll's 30th Anniversary hang in NYC a year or two ago and wanted to buy it on the spot. Fortunately for us, it wasn't for sale at the time and we now have the honor of offering it to you. After 5 minutes with it into a Victoria Vicky Verb, we're with Walter - Want. Badly.
We'll cover the build itself in the spec section, let's jump into feel, etc...All of Saul's guitars have "it". Life, soul, vibe, mojo...whatever term you like to use, this guitar has it. The neck feels a bit like an early 60s Strat crossed with a Gretsch Duo Jet. The setup and playability are spot on. It's snappy and quite loud acoustically thanks to the chambered Korina body. It balances perfectly seated or standing.
Plugged into the Vicky Verb the tones were stunning. A bit like a Jazzmaster crossed with a Rickenbacker crossed with a Tele. Twangy, punching, super articulate, absolutely inspiring. The 5-way switch offers great variation with our favorite being the 2 and 4 positions (the Charlie Christian middle pickups really fattens up the gold foils in a very cool way).
We could go on, but suffice it to say, this is one of the special, one-off Koll creations. Check out the specs section for a run-down of the unique features on this masterpiece. Don't miss it! Priced with a original case, new Koll strap, and case candy.
Interested? We may have another on the way.
