We're really digging this 2015 Ancho Poblano Custom Shop Strat that just came in on trade!
As its name implies, Fender wanted to take the classic Strat platform and kick it up a few notches. Largely centered around their new Ancho Poblano pickups, this model also sports a fat, Nocaster-like U-shaped neck with jumbo frets, and an ultra-thin aged nitro finish. While quite thick, the neck still feels really comfortable partly due to the wear on the back of the neck and also just the shape / width of the neck. It's fat, but not overly wide - almost like a 58 LP reissue but with a smaller nut width.
Back to the pickups...these are designed to get progressively hotter as you go from bridge to neck pickup. The middle and neck pickups have been specially calibrated to "enhance solo work." In our hands, we did notice the increased output but in no way is this a rock / metal guitar only. It still retains beautiful cluck, quack, and clarity, but the pickups simply do a little bit more of the work for you vs low output pickups (we really like this aspect).
The higher output bridge pickup gets you into more Tele-like tones than the typical Strat. It's widely accepted that the weak spot on a more traditional Strat is the bridge pickup (hence folks putting humbuckers in that position), so we were really liking the Tele-meets-Strat tones this pickup puts out! Twangy, beefy, powerful, awesome.
Condition: Excellent w/minor fret wear.
Weighing in at 7lbs 4oz, this really resonant, hot-rodded Custom Shop Strat brings some extra kick but never strays from feeling like a great, well-loved Fender. A must for folks who like fat-necked guitars! Priced with hardshell case.
Interested? We may have another on the way.
