"Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You're trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that's okay - that's their deal. We're trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more." - Bill Collings
So what would happen if you crossed a '59 LP's looks with an ES-335? We're pretty confident you'd end up with this stunning Collings I-35 Lemon Burst Quilt Top w/Aged Lacquer, Cream Pickguard, & Throbaks!
We've known that Collings is capable of making incredibly beautiful looking, sounding, and playing guitars for quite some time. To have them turn their attention to nailing the classic ES335 "recipe" visually - neck binding, dot inlays, pickguard - and then apply a very realistic aged lacquer finish...it doesn't get much better.
First impressions? Super resonant, lively, and responsive. The neck on this I-35 feels incredible. The setup is simply flawless. Once you pick this one up, it's very hard to put back down. The tone of this guitar matches the look perfectly - smokey, warm, fat, vintage - thanks to a pair of Throbak SLE101 Plus pickups. It really sounds like an older ES-335. Add to that a total weight of 7 lbs and 2 oz and you've got one hell of a great semi-hollow bodied guitar!
The guitars coming out of the Collings factory these days are really special guitars. This guitar could easily end your search for the perfect humbucker-equipped semi-hollow! Priced with hardshell case.
